Maureen McGovern, Shania Twain, Emilia Clarke, more stars share their health struggle

Celebrities like Selma Blair, Jada Pinkett Smith, Selena Gomezand Justin Bieberhave taken to speaking out

about current health issues, and have encouraged fans to follow suit.

Singer and actress Maureen MacGovern announced in her blog that she had received "

diagnosed with posterior cortical atrophy with symptoms of Alzheimer's and/or Dementia."

"I struggled with the inevitable shock with fear and frankly hopelessness," she wrote.

"But slowly I realized that my inner life has not changed. My passion for music, for singing, remains profoundly robust."

Posterior Cortical Atrophy "refers to gradual and progressive degeneration of the outer layer of the brain (the cortex) 

in the part of the brain located in the back of the head (posterior)," according to the Alzheimer's Association.

In their Netflix documentary "Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl," which was released in July 2022, country music legend

Shania Twain opened her mouth about the physical damage Lyme disease has taken on her voice.

Twain admitted that she was diagnosed with the illness towards the conclusion in her "Up! Tour"

(which ran from 2003 until 2004) after she was bitten by an insect while riding on horseback.
