Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans thought quarterback Tom Brady was dragging his feet when he said he was returning to the team after a brief retirement earlier this year, but a change of plans didn’t affect his view. What would Rob Gronkowski do? year.
Gronkowski recently announced a retirement that his agent and many others feel may not last longer than the time Brady retires. During an interview with KPRC’s Ari Alexander, Evans was asked if he shared that opinion.
Evans said he hopes to share ground with Gronkowski again this year, but doesn’t see how things are going to turn out.
“I hope he comes back. With Tom and Gronk, you never know,” Evans said. “If he’d come back I wouldn’t be mad. If he’s back I’m really excited, but I think he’s done. He plays the tight end position and he makes the most of it. It’s his all. Gives some, practices really hard, takes a lot of shots, blocks, runs after catches. He takes a huge hit, I’ve seen his body after a few of those games and I understand That’s why.”
Evans said it hurts offense to lose “the best tight end ever” and added that it would be up to him and the others if Gronkowski decides to stay on the sidelines.
